I have been in the plumbing industry full-time since 2006. I established my company in 2010.

Kicking off January, we had the privilege of sitting down with Linda Hudek, the force behind LH Plumbing. Linda is a proud licensed master plumber based in Fairfield, Ohio and she sat down with us to share her journey into the industry and her insights as a business owner.

Linda’s journey into plumbing began in her senior year of high school, when she decided to work for her father’s company one summer . “I asked if I could work for him the summer of my senior year, and he begrudgingly said yes. I started working for him and decided I really liked it, and the rest is history. I like to conquer things, so the challenge I thought was great and I love to work with my hands as well.”

Why is There a Plumbing Code and Why Should I Hire a Licensed Plumber/Plumbing Company?

Plumbers in particular deal with many different aspects of your homes and businesses.

Including water heaters, water treatment and protection, sewage, appliances likes dryers and stoves requiring natural gas, and so much more. We are responsible for piping medical gas systems in hospitals, surgical centers, dental providers. We also provide water piping for specialty facilities like dialysis treatment centers, where the reverse osmosis system is used to provide life sustaining treatment for those whose bodies cannot function as needed. All of these systems are vital for a number of different reasons. For instance, without properly installed and maintained reverse osmosis water, dialysis centers would not be able to operate and many people would either die from complications or remain incredibly sick. Without backflow prevention (which we will discuss in the next few blog entries), contaminated heating water could enter into the drinking water inside of a building (or even water used for dialysis). It could also contaminate the city or purveyor’s water main and cause issues for hundreds or even thousands of consumers. If a natural gas or propane heater or furnace is not properly installed, it can cause build up of carbon monoxide and either kill or cause serious injury to the occupants of a building. Improperly installed appliances and fixtures can also cause explosions and fires. The plumbing code and the way in which we install and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures is designed to ultimately provide not just the luxury of hot water or heat in your home- but to protect your drinking water, the disposal of waste that carries with it disease and vermin, and to be able to provide life sustaining treatments and surgeries. Everything from the hospital to your church relies on modern plumbing, HVAC, electrical, fire suppression, and many other trades to maintain safety and function.

Without safe, modern plumbing, including water and sewage treatment- no amount of doctors or vaccines would able to quell the sicknesses and disease that accompany dirty water and untreated sewage. A licensed plumber is required to maintain insurance and continuing education every year. We are also required to show proof of experience in the field, and pass multiple exams prior to receiving our license.

This is all ultimately to protect you and your family. The health of the nation supersedes everything else.

From entering the trades at an early age, to owning her own business, to becoming the President of PHCC Ohio, there is nothing that this Contractor of the Year really can’t do.

FAIRFIELD, OH — Swimming in the extremely murky 60° water with waves constantly smashing her face when she would come up for air, Linda Hudek began to question her sanity, as she asked herself, “Why on earth did I sign up for this? What happens if a shark comes around? Would I get in trouble for punching that guy for kicking me in the face?”

There was a time when master plumber Linda Hudek, the owner of LH Plumbing Services in Fairfield, Ohio, owned only the bare minimum of draining cleaning equipment and subbed out larger jobs to local contractors she trusted.

Now the shoe is on the other foot, with nearly a dozen local plumbers hiring Hudek to handle their drain cleaning needs.
